After Sony Ericsson buy all shares in the joint venture Sony Ericsson in early February 2012, Sony mobile devices division changed its name to Sony Mobile Communication.
Major changes took place in the smartphone which is under Sony trademark.
Japanese manufacturers were no longer make a feature phone (mobile phones with limited functionality and lower-priced). Now they just focus on making smartphones.
"We have received information from Sony Mobile Communication center that Sony is only focused to produce a smartphone," said Hanny Sanjaya, Corporate Communications Manager Mobile Communications Sony Indonesia.
Android is still a major operating system adopted Sony. However, continued Hanny, Sony remains open to all mobile operating systems, like Windows Phone.
Old players in the smartphone market is being actively jealous of changing the image in order to escape the shadow of Ericsson. They are now focus on targeting the premium market.
On Friday (04.13.2012), S Xperia has been officially marketed in Indonesia and cost Rp 5.499 million. This is the first Android smartphone Xperia under the Sony trademark.
